Today at the Sies Marjan show, Sander Lak’s diverse cast of models ran the gamut across spectrums of ages—think Anwar Hadid sharing space with Mark Vanderloo, Malgosia Bella, and Kaia Gerber, for instance—as well as body types and hair textures.

But one glowing face stood out from the pack—model and actress Dree Hemingway, who recently sheared off her long hair for a sleek, micro short buzz cut that seemed to set her famously fine-boned features in that much more striking relief.

Fresh off filming Run with the Hunted, a forthcoming movie which wrapped last week in Oklahoma, Hemingway says her new anti-cut has made her feel more herself than ever. As the fairest-haired of the Hemingway sisters tells it, she parted ways with her trademark waves a month ahead of shooting to allow herself time to grow accustomed to the cut.

“My hair was my security blanket, but it was also my girliest aspect—
it took my tomboyishness and made it feminine."

So the transition that followed without it, she reflected, "was a lot about finding that femininity within myself." She also noted that ditching her hair offered the opportunity to lose a few additional bad habits.

“I cut off a lot of insecurity in a way. I don’t compare myself to other girls anymore, which is something I used to do a lot,” she said. “And it's made me really aware of how I treat my body, because I can’t hide behind my hair. I just take care of myself more. Buzz cut Dree is really happy.” An aesthetic shift that moonlights as a middle path toward self-love? Behold the power of a really good haircut.
